SUE “Lenoblvodokanal” and Lappeenranta verified plans on Monrepos

The coordinators of this large infrastructure project under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme “South-East Finland – Russia” 2014-2020 are the SUE "Lenoblvodokanal" from Russia and theLappeenranta Region’s Environmental Office from Finland.

The meeting participants - the experts of SUE "Lenoblvodokanal" under the leadership of Sergey Morozov, General Director, the Finnish delegation headed by Jukka-Pekka Bergman, the Program Director and the administration of Vyborg verified the plans, discussed the specific state of affairs on the project, updated the activity plan, outlined the date of the project management group meeting of all partners. It was also decided to include the Vyborg City Administration as a partner in the Program.

The priority of the project for both countries is to preserve the freshwater resources of the Gulf of Finland. The implementation of the project will reduce harmful emissions into the waters of the Gulf of Finland by reconstructing existing networks and improving the water treatment infrastructure.

SUE "Lenoblvodokanal" started the implementation of this project after the signing of the Grant Contract under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme “South-East Finland – Russia” on May 31, 2019.
The total cost of the project is 3.5 million euros. The Managing Authority of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme “South-East Finland – Russia” undertakes to finance 80% of costs, 20% is the co-financing by the SUE "Lenoblvodokanal".

Specialists of the SUE "Lenoblvodokanal" will construct 3.5 km of sewerage networks, build a water pipelines with a length of 558.5 m, reconstruct 2 and build 1 new sewerage pumping stations under the project.

These facilities will serve 4 micro districts located on the Tverdysh island of the Vyborg district with a population of up to 4,000 people; as well as the Central City Hospital and Monrepos Park. Thus, SUE "Lenoblvodokanal" will change the sewerage scheme of the Petrovsky micro district and "Park Monrepos" and exclude direct wastewater flows into the Gulf of Finland. The project will be implemented by the end of 2021.

The project provides the mutual experience exchange between Russian and Finnish specialists, which will help coordinate joint actions to improve wastewater management systems on both sides of the border.

International cooperation of neighboring regions of Russia and Finland under this Project will improve the ecological situation in the Gulf of Finland basin and adjacent territories. The living standards for locals will improve. It will also increase the tourist attractiveness of the Monrepos Park.
